Finally an Update on the Smith Kitchen
I am so happy with the way this space turned out. Although if I blinked I might’ve missed it! While this project was completed back in May I am finally getting some “after” pics posted and have loved revisiting this space and the whole process. The contractor was seriously on top of the project and held to his schedule [slow-clap applause initiation here]. Before we knew it, it was complete! (I also realize I might not feel that way if I was the owner, with my refrigerator temporarily living in my foyer. I’ll admit that!) Nonetheless it’s always satisfying when things stay on schedule. I really didn’t have much time for blog updates and when I walked in a few days after completion…the owner had already put her kitchen back together! #lifegoals
Even though my design style swings more modern I think we were able to land on the perfect happy medium so that this kitchen nestles flawlessly in the existing traditional home and still speaks to the Smith’s more conservative style. One thing we talked about during the design phase was that the end goal is always for a remodel to feel as if the home had always been that way. We all agree we accomplished that with this space. What was once a small narrow kitchen with a segregated dining space and ceilings all over the place, is now an open airy home with seating that offers choice and control. You can sit at the island for snacks or homework, the banquette for morning coffee (picture a custom cushion, pillows, and a small table nestled within), or the dining table for more formal meals and occasions. All open to each other so the space no longer feels dark, divided…and anti-social! The millwork was salvaged where possible and incoming design matched the traditional raised panel throughout the space. Light fixtures and hardware was kept in the bronze finish family taking note from the existing finish scheme.
Here are the pics of the finished project with paint colors and material specifications at the bottom. I also included the before and afters taken by the client for fun. See the concept images from the design phase here. I really enjoyed working with The Smiths this spring and hope they’ve have a great time hosting ALL the friends and family get-togethers in their new kitchen this summer! They certainly have the island for it [enter queso].
